User Manuals

You've built a software application that may be very useful for someone: but only if they can figure out how it works.

Some software, particularly web-based (which usually follows a consistent, established approach to usability), is intuitive enough that users need only gentle guidance, such as tool tips and prompts.

Applications that are more complex in scope and functionality are a different beast, however, and should always be accompanied by a user manual, which outlines the features of the software, explores common use cases and details troubleshooting procedures. This prevents users from becoming frustrated, which is quickly passed on to support teams (which will need to be larger if your software has no user manual).

I often get requests to write user manuals after a software application has been released on to the market - as a direct response to an overloaded support desk.

I have been writing user manuals in English and German for more than 20 years, during which time I have successfully shown target audiences how to operate software as diverse as email/PIM synchronization and management solutions, intelligent network applications, content management systems, digital publishing software, e-Commerce digital download platforms and device management technology.

It doesn't matter what your software does or how complex it is:  I'll guide your users through it and lower your support costs.
